Farmer Senior Scouts Badge 1958 to 1964
The Farmer Badge was part of the
Collective series “Countryman”
To earn this badge a scout must do
the following *
(1) Demonstrate practical work of one of the following: Horseman,
Shepherd, Cowman or Pigman.
(2) Show a general knowledge of haymaking sowing, harvesting, and an
acquaintance with routine seasonal work on a farm, including the care of cattle,
horses, sheep and pigs.
(3) Recognise common crops and show some knowledge of rotation.
(4) Keep satisfactorily one of the following over a period of a year :
(a) Bees, rabbits, chickens, ducks,
geese, turkeys, pigeons goats. (Produce proper accounts showing business
methods.) Or
(b) Know the ways in which soil is kept fertile; have a general knowledge of the rotation of crops, the chief pests and diseases; and know the locally important breeds of sheep and cattle.
(5)
(a) Have spent at least a week on a farm and have worked for at least
six hours a day for five clays in that week.
Or
(b) Make a general agricultural survey of a village (under 1,000
inhabitants), giving details of local crafts, crops, markets and
transport.
